a lot of great money quotes in this article-June must trust this writer or thought no one would ever see it. My favorite is June admits its really not so hard to get recruits into SMU

Didn't JoePa always say that so his recruits would think he would always be there?

Or tell Sandusky that so he would think he had that more time before he went to the pokey?

I guess 100 years from now people will still be talking about the death penalty. Yawn

If I'm SMU you have no better potential marketing partner than PrimeTime. I'd be using that quote, with his permission of course, all day long and twice on Sunday. Current recruits know about him (I think) and he's still relevant from a "cool-ness" factor I think, which is one of SMU's biggest issues on the football side of things. Maybe he can get us into the Florida market and certainly the Dallas market (I'm sure his loyalty is still to FSU but his son's future alma mater might get some love, too).

"I'll be honest,'' he said during a telephone conversation after practice, "this has been a very difficult job.''

Jones has won at SMU despite some built-in limitations. Admission requirements are rigid.

"We have a lot of issues here that are different from most schools,'' Jones said. "It's not so much getting players (into school) it's keeping them in that has been the challenge.''

Wow, there's quite a lot of stuff in that. Unpacking it all could spin this thread out to several (hundred) pages.

Interesting article, seems like he opened up to the Oregon paper a little bit. I certainly can't seem him at SMU for 5 yrs.

Who has flunked out? I know TW had problems and DJ has been borderline. Any others now in jeopardy?
What has been mentioned is lack of tutors and academic support for athletes.

It's pretty simple June, recruit better.

Well thesis old news but June pulled major strings through out some of these seniors careers... A number of starters almost didn't make it to their junior year

I saw that quote and thought it interesting that Stallion ONLY noticed it's not so much getting players in to SMU, BUT "keeping them in has been the challenge". Mexmustang will be heard from soon....
Interesting that June doesn't appear to open up to Texas reporters like he does to Oregon reporters, as if he doesn't trust them still.
