While we would never play a BCS team in it the coaches always have the team ready to play.

Not necessarily true, remember Notre Dame made its way to Hawaii a couple years ago to face Hawaii. If we sustain this effort throughout the game I do think we should buy the naming rights. Make it the SMU Invitational Hawaii Bowl.

They did not have tie ins to 2 conferences then. Ties are from MWC and CUSA now. No BCS team will be going to this bowl now. But that might be good for SMU. We should not want ot play a BCS team in this bowl because we are having so much success without a BCS team being there.

I'm pretty sure the WAC and CUSA had a tie-in then, but maybe it wasn't in place that year. I don't believe a lot of BCS teams want to play in the Hawaii Bowl. Besides it is best if SMU continues to play non BCS team in the game.
