I want some better recruit efforts and some better early year play calling. 4th down on one yard line field goals anyone?

We have recruited well enough to win a depleted Big East west div. I don't know about being BCS competitive yet though. We will find out next year for sure.

June should give Mason a hug and a kiss, without some D this yr, none of this happens.

Mason has probably saved June's job over that last few years because the offense has not clicked very well on a consistent basis.

We have not recruited well enough to win the BE West. Hell we haven't recruited well enough to win a weak [deleted] C-USA. Last I checked we're still losing half our starters (including an overwhelming majority of our front 7) and we're still a pathetic road team (8-22 under June). Not to mention that June has been dominated by Boise State in his career.

This win ought to make SMU fans scratch their heads over what happened against Tulane, Rice and in the second half against Tulsa. JJ is not totally responsible for all that, but still ...

Nevertheless, great win in the Hawaii Bowl, kudos to June, the staff and the players.

Really makes you scratch your head. My biggest question is why did June wait until the last game of the year for Gilbert to get the green light to run. That would have made a huge difference in the season. Good to see him make some changes although they are very rare in his stubborn head.

I think the practice definitely helped. Mason had an excellent game plan that worked very well in the 1st Quarter.

I've been very impressed with SMU over the last few games. Had the Ponys played all season like they have the last two games they would have won at least two more games perhaps more. If they play at the level of these last two they will compete for BE West title. Big shoes to fill with Hunt graduating. It is time for Gilbert to take a few steps forward. The receivers need to get use to catching balls coming hard and fast. I'm beginning to like our progress. This was a big game for SMU and they looked GREAT! I have no problem with the calls...we won big time. That's what is important. SMU beat a very good team by big numbers.

Like our other wins this is all about
1. Defense
2. Letting GG run.

Did we have 200 yards passing? Still our passing O is not clicking.

212 yards passing
169 yards rushing, 98 of those by GG.

If this is a sign of evolution in the offense, great. However I fear we return to doing nothing on offense but incomplete passes.

I'll gladly eat crow. I didn't think they had this in them. I believe Mason deserves a lot of credit because the defense was great but JJ is the face, gotta give him credit.
