USC will be the most popular Sun Bowl opponent since our mid 1980's team charmed El Paso. I hope they were sent to bed without a meal

SMU (10-1) finished the season #6 or7 in the country and the team felt they deserved a better bowl. The team did not want to go. They players bad mouth El Paso and the Sun Bowl. Alabama (7-4) embarrassed SMU 28-7.

Didn't TCU beat USC back in the 90's in the Sun Bowl and that got things kind of kicked off with their program?

1998 Sun Bowl. Beat USC, 28-19.

I remember that Grant Teaff took an underrated Baylor team to El Paso and beat a mouthy Arizona Wildcat team during their "Desert Storm" days.

The empty dining room tells everyone exactly what all we Trojan Fans think of this "Post Season Reward"
What a Joke...

1998 Sun Bowl. Beat USC, 28-19.
That's when it all started for the Frogs.
(Well, actually beating SMU in the '97 finale got it started. TCU came in 0-10 and beat us in Pat Sullivan's last game as head coach.)

Well now the whole country knows USC is a bunch of tools. They are lucky to get an invite, and instead of being good guests they acted like L.A. Punks.

maybe USC thought they were still ineligible for postseason bowl proceedings

"We definitely took TCU for granted,"Freshman QB Carson Palmer said. "We thought we could do pretty much what we wanted, but they really shut us down. I was surprised when we couldn't run the football. I couldn't believe it when they scored their first touchdown. ... I was shocked when it was 21-0."
Everyone needs to remember that the USC Coach in 1998 was the venerated Paul Hackett.
JJ is a Tiki God compared to what Trojan Fans think of Paul Hackett.
USC coach Paul Hackett watched as the Trojan running game was nonexistent, managing a measly total of minus-23 yards
PH was the worst!

Ineligibility is preferable for most USC fans than this fiasco of a post season!
Hopefully SMU can in the future be in a position to feel the same way!

When we do I hope we have the class to be better then a junior high player and actually go to the bowl events put on by the people paying us to be there and volunteers just trying to help out their city.
