James Franklin stops press conference after bowl win to hug a long-time fan, saying thanks for sticking with the program, and that the fan is "due."

Wistful sigh...heartwarming acknowledgement (instead of disdain) of long-suffering fan.

I saw that too. Thanks for sharing. Franklin is a class act and will lead VU to be a credible force in the SEC.

My daughter went to Vandy and the Commodores are likely to become the next Stanford and Northwestern, i.e. quality academics with consistenly strong FB programs. Add Notre Dame to the mix, the credible admission policies are not necessarily a death sentence. Turn a negative into a positive.

According to Coach Jones admissions isn't the problem. It is the SMU curriculum that is the problem to keep players eligible. The above schools mentioned have curriculum to keep players eligible.

Sick of excuses. Our curriculum or any other academic restriction didn't cause us to lose Rice or Tulane. We don't need easier classes to "steal" those on the road.

Amen, bro.
BTW, anybody see JJ in that video?
More likely, he'd say "Thanks. But if there are no real questions I really don't have a lot of time for this. Nothing personal."

Franklin has a lot of class. He looks to be a great sideline coach--can be very emotional and in a player's face when needed, but also the first one to congratulate a player. Vandy has a very good coach in Franklin.

Anyone have a list of impact players who were admitted to SMU but then lost as academic casualties? Only Wilkerson immediately comes to mind and that was only temporary

I was told by the parent of a player that there have been about 40 that could not stay in school. I do not know first, how there could have been that many, and second, how this would not be common knowledge, so I really do not believe it, but he was serious. I was not in a position to ask for better clarification.

You can't just make stuff up about schools like Vandy, Northwestern, Duke and Stanford and have any legitimacy. Those schools do not take the academic risks SMU does. You want to go find some JUCOs that were non qualifiers out of high school? Hell can you find half the number of JUCOs SMU has signed. I thought I proved that was incorrect just the other day and none of those schools had more than 1-2 JUCOs over 5 years. How about some recruits that were late qualifiers under NCAA rules. You're not going to find much evidence that they recruit the players SMU does in the first place so how can you compare curiculum? As SMU Football Blog's link showed-there is very little evidence of clustering at Stanford with dumbed down majors
