Combine Big East and MWC

I am sure this has been mentioned, but what would be wrong with creating a mega conference of the Big East and MWC? In other words the winner of each conference play each other in a championship for a guaranteed BCS spot?
While it's not ideal, at least it saves these 20 schools from being relegated to some tier 2 level completely shut out of big boy football (which seems to be where we are headed). It would prevent the Big East and MWC from having to fight out C-USA, MAC, Sun-Belt etc... for the other spot. It gives us separatation and viability. Maybe it will also make us all more attractive to ESPN, CBS, NBC, Playboy Channel etc...

Not trying to sound like a jerk but that sounds like a horrible idea. It would be far superior to get all the best teams in one conference and leave the crap ones in another. Look keeping the big east small would be better for us. If we get a tv contract even small, we won't have to share. Heck maybe we can play more out of conference games. Either way, we played a conference co champion and wooped them, why bother inviting them??

Sounds like a good idea if you want to be making $500k a year on a tv deal

Who else is left out there that if joined the big east would solidify the big east as something other than C-USA part deux. It's about not getting left behind in this new tier ii football conference.

You'd be back to a double championship game system with 24 teams. In essence you form the league and form 4 divisions. The winners of each division play and the winners of those games play in the conference championship. The problem with that is that it requires an NCAA waiver. The $$$$ would be so watered down it would be ridiculous. For the truly good team it would give them two opportunities to mess up after a great regular season. Each team would probably have to give up a home game. It would allow some sort of divisional rotation. You play 5 games against your division opponents and then rotate divisional opponents over time. You would play every team outside of your division over the course of 6 years and once every 12 years, they would come to your stadium. Theoretically we would play in let's say the MW division of the combined conference. It would probably include SMU, UH, Tulane, Tulsa, Cincy, Memphis. Let's say we played the mountain division out of conference in year one. That would mean our opponents would include CSU, Wyoming and Boise. In year two they would be from the East and would include Navy, Temple, ECU. In year three we get the western division and get SDS, Fresno, UNLV. In year 5 we get AFA, UNM and I guess UTEP. The next year six UCF, USF, and UConn. And so on. It would be a fluster cluck. So, we get most of our exposure in the midwest and on the west coast and Mountain and little on the east coast. I think it stinks.

If Mike Aresco can incite BYU, that would be quite meaningful to BE, while ensuring SDSU remains committed.

We're already becoming a tier ii football conference. Luckily the ACC is about to be blown up, if we don't end up there then SMU gets what it deserves for being irrelevant for a quarter of a century.

I agree! I think keeping the Big East at 8 schools would have been great. Imagine a schedule like this:
Houston
Memphis
Cincinnati
UCONN
Temple
UCF
USF
TCU
Baylor
Texas Tech
2 of the following: Rice, UTEP, UNT, UTSA, Texas State

We've been in tier two conferences for about twenty years now. Though I'm disappointed by the watering down of the Big East, there's still plenty of opportunity out there to better our lot from where we are currently in CUSA. Let's see just how far we can take it.
All of this is severely testing my laizzez faire attitude towards government. I wish Congress could and would step in and force regional conferences comprised of the top, say, 64 teams -- and then give us a 32 team national playoff. This has become insane.

Realistic? If we don't get an ACC invite when it blows up, there's not a good chance we get into the PAC-12 or BIG XII either. What then? If you're not into that group of BCS conferences there's almost no point in playing football. The gap between the haves and the haves not is about to rupture into a canyon in the coming decade.

Yes, but in the last 20 years you could actually do some heavy-duty damage in college football from this position. That wont really be the case going forward.

i think it best for us to just stay put, see if the ACC comes apart (it will) and make sure we are with the left overs. The problem with that will be that it will be private school heavy more then likely - but it is the best available option. adding MWC schools to the exisiting BE just adds bad teams with no market, to bad teams with decent markets. we are better off figuring out the best 8-10 team BE while we try to keep staying relevant.

Include everyone? In the spirit of college football where everyone either gets stabbed in the back, or does the stabbing, can't we leave out just a few? Lets push East Carolina under the bus!
