"Big East presidents will meet Friday in New York. Discussion points: when to exit, expansion targets, TV deal for next season and beyond."

I assume Turner is in NYC too. He and the UH President are likely key players now, since Texas is the swing state in discussions. Based on the agreed to strategy, either we will either be the western portioin of the BE or the eastern end of a BE Western Division.

Priorities?

- Determine if and how SDSU will remain in the BE
- If the Aztecs stay, can we assume they need at least one PT or MT partner, such as BYU (ideal candidate, but unlikely), Fresno State, San Jose State, Utah State, Air Force, etc.
- Assess the likelihood that UConn and Cincinnati will remain. We understand their preference for ACC (as would many others, including us), , but try to lock them in to the degree it is financially possible.
- Assume both Florida schools USF and UCF are givens and have few alternatives
- Elevate and promote BE BB, despite Catholic 7 depature. Build around UConn, Cincinnati, Temple and Memphis with SMU and Houston ascending. Perhaps SDSU BB should be considered, despite the geographical island?
- Finally, get a media deal on the table, especially one that is multiples of MWC's renegotiated TV deal.

The sense or urgency for the BE is great, as is the possibility to turn lemons into lemonade. Embrace the East.

According to Memphis AD, there will be also be a Jan. 11th Big East meeting in Dallas of league Athletic Directors will further address the issues.

Thanks for the updates, Waterpony. I get a chuckle from our resident MWC ankle grabber's comments. Reality and logic are not among his strong suits.

Like I said in another thread, if SDSU is seriously committed, it might be in our best interest to dissolve the conference and start anew without the Tulane and ECU problem. Make it an all sports conference. If Navy is still interested in football only, and the really do add to TC dollars add them to the east and add Hawaii to the West for TV in different time zones.

West
San Diego State
Fresno State
Nevada
UNLV
SMU
Houston

East
UCONN
Temple
Cincinnati
Memphis
USF
UCF

Yeah, kind of funny isn't it. After all we've been through over the past 25 years, SMU is now one of the biggest kids at the kiddie table. Next step. . .join the adults!

Stay East. Keep the Big East name and MSG. Don't give an inch to the Spineless C7....unless of course they agree to stay.

I think we should clearly ask for more then our equal share of the TV deal, since we are bringing all the value. Also we need to do our own cable network just for us, and claim later that we offered it to everyone else and they declined.

That would make us a great partner to all of our BE friends. Who wouldnt want to snuggle up next to that for a decade or so?

SMU drew a 1.7 television rating in Dallas for Hawaii Bowl. More people probably watched Quincy reruns. :)
(Today's DMN.)

Yes, I know you we're kidding.

Remeber the SMU motto - its not how many - its who they are!

SDSU looks like heading to MW.
