ESPN's Andy Katz reports SMU remains committed to BE:
"The remaining Big East athletic directors will meet in Dallas on Jan. 11 to discuss their latest moves, including the update on the television negotiations. Tulsa and UMass have been discussed as possible additions if the Big East decides to expand, according to multiple sources. Rice and Southern Miss were also tossed around. Meanwhile, the Mountain West expects to move on San Diego State by the end of this week, according to a league source. The MWC has to decide if it will go to 12 or 14. The MWC has interest in SMU and Houston, but SMU has let it be known to the MWC it has no interest as the Mustangs and Cougars are set to go to the Big East. UTEP desperately wants to be in the MWC, according to a source, and is on the MWC list. BYU is the first choice for the MWC but at this juncture the Cougars want to remain independent in football, WCC in other sports."

Has SMU pissed off Houston?
Honestly, if SMU and UH split up - it will be a lose lose for both parties. We bring major markets and a foothold in Texas...
Apart, we are merely try hards... I dont see how we can be successful apart.

I didn't interpet comment to be a separation, but rather assuming a common commitment.

This meeting should prioritize and provide direction on:
1) What moves might allow SDSU to keep their commitment to BE, e.g. a new western partner?
2) What assurances do we have that Cincinnati and UConn will be in for the mid-term?
3) What will it take to finalize a TV deal, so everyone, especially SDSU, can make a fact-based decision?
4) Is there any scenario that would allow BYU to move from Independence to BE, i.e. financially rational?
5) What extra steps can be taken to strengthen the BB membership and marketability after the Catholic 7 leave?

No idea, but if he is accurate, he also tweeted about B1G being ready to invite UNC and GaTech, and ACC similarly being near inviting UConn and Cinci

The 2013 football ticket renewal forms might have been mailed out a little early.............

There is just no reason to add Rice. None. And Tulsa is also not very big of a draw. I would rather see us adding So Miss then those two. The only reason UMass should be added is if it makes Cinn and UConn happy - but i would insist on a recomittment from them before we accept UMass and then get left with a big bag of nothing.
We should WAIT until ACC gets picked off and then see where some chips land. No need to invite anyone right now.

Why would you add teams to make UCONN and Cincy happy? Who the hell cares-they are out the door any way. SMU and UH hold the cards. We better be calling our shots-not schools like UMASS or OldDominion or Charlotte of UTSA or Texas St.

Stay small, with only the best available schools, keep the revenue distribution limited to a few, and only add if needed. For now, a 9 team all-sports league is more than enough. I would be ok with adding UNLV and Fresno State if it keeps San Diego State and that maximizes revenue.

that is another option-but guess what it won't happen because the Big East could face dissolution if ACC implodes-for protection they will go to 12 with a championship
