10. FB Zach Line, SMU (6-1, 230, 4.65) -- Not many running backs in this draft class can say they led their conference in rushing the past three seasons, but Line can -- with 1,200+ yards each of the last three years. He finished his SMU career with 4,185 rushing yards, putting him second on the program's career rushing list behind only Eric Dickerson. Line has deceiving speed and acceleration but needs to remember he's not a make-you-miss back and rely more on delivering hits, not absorbing them. He has the size and running mentality of a fullback but was used as the primary running option for the Mustangs and is expected to be used in both roles this week and at the NFL level.

Normally, I never watch these games, but I'm going to find a sports bar with the NFL Network to see Zach play one more time as a college player.

Class act: A term used by sports commentators and society to refer to the black coach, e.g., Tony Dungy.

Firecracker, spark plug: The Latino athlete, as referred to by the sports commentators or personalities, e.g., Ozzie Guillen.

Gym rat, scrappy player: The white athlete, e.g., Wes Welker

Inscrutable player: The Asian athlete.

High Sports IQ: The non-athletic white guy somehow on the court.

Running Backs Christine Michael and Zach Line Shine at West Practice
January 15, 2013 in 2013 East-West Shrine Game

Here are my observations from Day 1 at the East West Shrine Game:

Running back Zach Line, SMU:

-Line is generally seen as a fullback at the next level, but he's making a strong case to get some carries in the NFL. He has 3,996 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns over his last three seasons. He's also shown solid production catching the ball out of the backfield in his career. At practice, Line ran hard and caught the ball well in individual drills. At times he ran too high, but for the most part kept his pads low running with good vision. He may still work as a fullback in the NFL, but he should have his fair share of offensive touches.

Zach definitely has a lot to offer beyond just carrying the ball. He can catch, he can make an actual block, not just chip block. He can play special teams. All of that will get coaches to notice him.

Zach reminds me of Daryl "Moose" Johnson from the 90's Cowboy Super Bowl days.

Cross between Allstot and Rathman. Just to go back to the original theme :).

Someone will pick him in the 4th round.

I understand the fullback categorization, but it'd be very cool to see Zach get the chance at RB.
