College atheletics as we know it are changing.

It absolutely is changing. This is a big step. It will be interesting.

If students get revenue, then certain college sports, such as FB and BB, should be defunded. Let the NFL and NBA create their own, real minor leagues and move on.

I like the idea of rugby, soccer, volleyball, rowing, track & field, lacrosse and, of course, swimming & diving becoming the predominat college sports, abiet, non-revenue to avoid recreating the problem.

They players are out their getting concussion and risking their health. Might as well allow them to get some of the revenue they generate.

Does this mean we can stop pretending they are students?

Will we have to pay cheerleaders and band members when they get on TV?

Slippery slope. We now have an obligatioin to paid all student-athletes in both revenue and non-revenue sports for Men and Women. Should we also deduct the tuition, room & board, fees from their "pay checks"?

Alabama football players are paid more, Kentucky basketball players are paid more, SEC paid more? Big East less? ....................................................

Let the court make the ruling and colleges should defund. Crazy stuff.

Obviously, I am being humorous but there is dark side of athletic finances starting with the salaries of FB and BB coaches. To say the least the salaries are so bloated and outragous that it begs the questions whether we remain a college sports dedicated to developing Men and Women for the future. While alums and fans enjoy watching them (hopefully in person), we can collectively feel that the pursuit of revenue is twisting the role, purpose and enjoyment.

Today's conference realignment reflects this pursuit, which is not in the best interests of student athletes from a travel perspective or traditional, regional rivalries.

Agree 100%! It is called greed and the chase for the almighty dollar. The breakup up of the SWC was caused by it. So short sided on so many levels.

I've never understood the argument that college players are risking concussions and other injuries with "nothing to fall back on," as Obama recently put it. Uh, they're getting to go to college for free. That's at least $100k right there- or much more, at any private school. Whether they choose to take advantage of the opportunity and get a degree is their prerogative.

PS Don't want this to become a political argument with Alumni11 spouting off Ann Coulter talking points, I've heard others make Obama's point as well.

The majority of these players couldn't get into their school as a regular applicant. And are getting that degree for free. No doubt it's a lot of hard work and sacrifice, but those that can't play at the next level are certainly not coming away empty handed.

They may have to work hard at it, but when all is said and done, it's a game and they enjoy playing it...hard work and all.

Not a legal guy, but all the judge did was allow the players to continue their class action ant-trust suit. Nothing is won yet.

Agreed. That is why is may be a slippery slope, if the court give student-athletes status and recourse at some point. The possible implications may change the face of all collegiate sports.
