UT Posts Director of Player Personnel Opening

the DMN reported today that UT will follow lead of Alabama and Nebraska and hire a Director of Player Personnel. Alabama hired Kevin Steele as Director of Player Personnel plus 2 assistants. Steele has to be getting at least half a Million himself. I saw a lot of giddy SMU fans claiming how neat-o it was that the NCAA had loosened recruiting restrictions on non-coach recruiting so I'm wondering what plans SMU has to respond to this rule change. Need probably about a Million Dollars to fully fund a Personnel Department. I know we got plenty as shown by flushing another Million down drain on Baylor surrender. As June and his Coaching Staff reach their Twilite years a Player Personnel Department will allow them to "slow down" and spend more time with their families. Please send your checks or money orders to the Athletic Director asap.

Is the Mumme rumor at least partially related to a new NCAA opening for Player Personnel Director? Somebody may be moving to that position or it could be Mumme himself. Who would be paying for that new expense?

My bigger concern is the financial arms race in college athletics. BCS conferences push these new roles with their associated budget increases and further distances themselves from the bottom half of the Division 1 membership. In addition, any positive returns are increasingly held within FB and probably BB and either defund the non-revenue sports, reduce their access to resources or increase pressure to do more with less. Paying students-athletes is the next objective.

Insulting that UT's revenues in the AD exceed $300,000,000 yet the state refuses to ask for an audit of how the money is spent--while putting up another $200,000,000 or so to fund the university's operating deficit.

I guess I estimated on the low end on how much money some of these schools are going to pour into Player Personnel Departments. Get this -Alabama has already hired 5 former college Coordinator level assistants to serve in the Player Personnel Department. Kevin Steele-former NCAA recruiter of the year will be the Director. These aren't coaching positions-these are IN ADDITION to the coaching staffs. NCAA needs to step in right now or this is going to get crazy. As I've pointed out once or twice-College football is about RECRUITING-and the top schools will pour as much money as possible into getting the best players availiable.

Looks like USF has become the first Big East team to hire a Director of Player Personnel-he was hired from Alabama which I believe has the No. 1 recruiting class in 4 out of 5 years. Considering how old our staff is you'd think we'd at least consider something along these lines. I'm sure we'd need some private funding like in Basketball. Schools that i've seen either hiring or advertising such as position are:

UT
Alabama
Illinois
Nebraska
USF
TCU hired Kenny Perry a couple of weeks ago from Arlington Bowie to work in the High school relations department-could be same thing

Yeah TCU is just calling it Director of High School Relations but it is a new position created in response to new NCAA rules. That's 2 schools on our schedule
