Dr. Turner: Do something ...

Let's go. Time for us to make a move.
http://ajerseyguy.com/?p=5365"The Big East ... is expected to approve a plan which would sell the name "Big East" to the Catholic 7, as well as allow the group - which includes Seton Hall. St. John’s, Georgetown, DePaul, Marquette. Providence and Villanova - to leave in July."
"A (Catholic 7) move to expand to at least ten teams is expected quickly. Butler and Xavier are the heavy favorites to receive two immediate invitations - with Saint Louis, Dayton, Richmond and Creighton also regarded as viable candidates.
============================
This BIG EAST -- make that conference formerly known as the BIG EAST -- move is a now disaster for us.
It looked good when we made the deal, but it's TERRIBLE now.
Get proactive. Now. Not tomorrow. Today. Now.

Guess that means ECU all sports, and an invitation to Tulsa. . . SMH

Why should Catholic Seven get Butler? Add Creighton and Butler for BB and other sports now, except FB, and pre-empt the Catholics. With Creighton, Omaha, adding Tulsa for all sports makes more sense, while with Bulter/Indianapolis you will be strengthing BB brand and media power. VUC is another option.
Catholics can go for Xaiver (Cincinnati), Loyola (Chicago) and/or Dayton, plus St. Louis. All good Catholic schools.

You're right. We would be so much better off sticking with UNT and Rice in CUSA.

Yeah, as depressing as it is, the Big East (or whatever it will be called when the dust settles) is still the best plan for us, at least in the short term.

You maybe right. But the only assumption used to join the Big East that hasn't evaporated is the membership fee--best Basketball in the US, high potential in football, Eastern exposure, name recognition, TV revenue, conference brand, etc.
Fact is every Big East member from a year ago, wants out and before they go, to get paid for turning off the lights.
A football conference that starts with SMU, Houston, SDSU, BYU, Airforce and BSU is starting to sound better and better.

SDSU, BYU and Boise are already quite happy where they're at. Going East is where the exposure and TV dollars are

Can we somehow blame Ken Pye for this?

The MWC's TV revenues aren't much less that the "talk" about the new Big East.
You hit is right on the head! Those three school are happy where they are! Not true of the Big East schools.
How do you draw TV dollars from the east coast if there is only one or two mediocre eastern football programs and the rest are from the southeast and Texas?
Once again, we should take a hard look at the alternatives, the assumptions used to go in are for the most part (in my opionion--all the key assumptions) not longer valid.

I don't know where we would make a move to. I hope it would not be the MWC. I guess we need to stay where we are until the ACC opens up.

I suppose there is still the possiblity that the ACC gets raided big time and the remainders, those that were in the Big East when we first accepted our invitation, may wind up joining forces with us anyway. That might not be all that bad.

Suddenly, its a liability to have a FBS football team. Seems like its an anchor around some programs neck. Seriously, the MWC is a better option then the collection of clowns out east.

There is absolutely ZERO reasons to look West this year. We will get more money in the To Be Determined Conference. As anyone paying attention should realize if the MWC wants to significantly expand its market they will look at SMU and UH. It will be the that way next year too. No reason to do a thing until the ACC situation becomes clearer. When that happens the MWC will still be there

I think we will just wait for the P1G and the SEC to finish their moves, then this may fall back into place. Not a great place, but the sky isn't falling in just yet. When the dust settles on UVA, VT, UNC, NCSU and GT, there will be another reshuffle of the deck. We need to keep building our programs and market the hell to and out of Dallas. The stronger we are in this market, even with our limitations, the better off we will be. We have to keep the image of the "up and coming" program.
And I concur, no way we move West unless we are completely locked out of all eastern scenarios. Which we won't be.
