I don't think so, but TTU sources picked it up.

@AaronDickens: #TexasTech's @BlayneBeal announces that the #RedRaiders' opener against SMU has been moved to Friday, Aug. 30 -- 7 p.m. on

This is where ESPN really is screwing the Big East. We hand them a Big 12 team for TV that otherwise would be on Fox-yet ESPN only pays a fraction since home team controls TV contracts

I love it. Primetime, nationally televised game in our stadium, and all the Tech red will just look like more SMU fans on TV. Kliff's first game so there should be a buzz, maybe June can work some magic and spoil it? I'm excited.

Another interesting story line: Tech's projected starting qb for next year, Michael Brewer, was Garrett's successor at Lake Travis

Wasn't Brewer's dad a former longhorn QB?

Crap! I leave on an international flight that afternoon! Maybe I can find it online. I'll be over the Atlantic during game time.

The game in University Park provides a lot of storylines and should win the Aug. 30 ratings war.

The game will be Kliff Kingsbury’s debut as the head coach of the Red Raiders, the two teams’ starting quarterbacks went to Lake Travis High School together and SMU has moved up to the BCS conference level with its move to the Big East Conference. ESPN couldn’t go wrong with this matchup while most teams will take on lesser opponents.

The bottom line for all teams involved in nationally televised games at unconventional times on opening weekend is those teams will get a jump start in fan interest. The winner of Texas Tech at SMU will get more exposure live and on highlight shows than Georgia at Clemson which will be going head-to-head with LSU versus TCU and comes on just after Alabama versus Virginia Tech on Aug. 31.
