I agree with that, just don't go with a number that a) is not accurate right now and b) you know will not be accurate at various times in the (likely near) future as almost everyone in your conference will leave if they get a chance.

I don't think the number of teams really matters that much. Do you get confused by the big 12 or big 10? Everyone knows what those conferences are regardless of how many current members they have

No I do not get confused. They named those conferences at a time when conference membership was not in nearly as much flux as it is right now. They expected to have stable memberships for the foreseeable future so using a number was sensible. Does this conference expect to be stable for the foreseeable future? Does this conference even have 12 schools right now?
