They are about to sign a deal that is slightly smaller than ours. Don't forget that it will not be split evenly either.

Don't forget, bringing Houston, SMU and BYU could change all the dynamics, including BSU's special status--never ever believe that things are static. Just adding these teams could change the payout ratio per school.
100 years ago, people believed that God didn't intend for man to fly!
You never know what you can accomplish if you don't have the juevos and vision to sit down and try--that takes leadership!
Seventeen former Big East schools decided to try!

Because you want to make less money and tie ourselves to San Jose St. (AKA the UAB of the West) and friends?

I was being sarcastic, under no circumstances would I ever want to see SMU in that conference.

no so we can waste more money on entrance and exit fees to receive less money from TV AND be eligible for the Hawaii Bowl

It doesn't matter that much. Which conference is going to have the better matchups? Which conference will be more stable? Which confernce will survive? Which conference will be funner?

At this level, no conference is stable. But the nBE or A12 or whatever it's called is the best choice for us right now.

Funner?

Don't you just love a TCU education?

The nBE is substantially better than the MWC:
Less tv $ and complete capitulation to Boise
Half of MWC games are played while half the country is asleep
Basketball is much worse than nBE with UConn, Temple, Memphis, and Cincy
People who are seriously advocating for the MWC over the nBE need to have a scarlet letter next to their username so we can remember how stupid they were.

It is just such a shame that SMU doesn't have a larger fan base of caring students, former students and fans around north texas that would help their support and make them an attractive target for the Big 12 or SEC. Great city, great university and some legendary players/coaches and a few good teams in past years. If they could only do something to attract the Dallas area college football fan.......make them feel it is their team too and not just a football team at a snooty university.

Dallas likes winners, no one in town would give a [deleted] about how "snooty" SMU is if SMU was winning a lot. No amount of community outreach is going to make Dallas want to support a loser.

The problem with SMU is similar to our struggles at Baylor. A long decade-plus period of dismal results thinned the fanbase down. So despite SMU having a combined 46k undergrad+alumni total in DFW... they struggle to get 20k of them to show up. It's going to take relevant winning which honestly will be tough to accomplish.
With that said here are things that likely work in SMU's favor:
- Playing Tech, A&M, BU, and TCU the next few years. Regional rivalries where each school has a similar amount of alumni in DFW that should multiply casual fan interest and get media attention. Also each team has pretty much every home game on a good tv deal so it's exposure for SMU.
- ESPN taking the tv deal from NBC for the Big East. SMU hasn't been on tv channels people can see on any consistent basis except *maybe* last year. Getting ESPN's networks for your top games, regional carriers for the syndication stuff, and possibly espn3 will be big exposure for you. The old CUSA deal had 10 games at most on ESPN's group and then everything else hidden on the hard to find channels. This is 17 on ESPN's group, 5 on ESPNU, and then syndication/espnu. Not perfect but a step up.
- Larry Brown's basketball program could really help if SMU can turn it around. A decent tourney run can do a lot.
The one thing is SMU has to be a consistent winner and pull an upset of a major team here and there and do it on a big tv stage.
