74. SMU
SMU's location and recruiting base are the only reasons why the Mustangs aren't lower as brand recognition, tradition and fan base support are basically non-existent.

lack of tradition? so heisman winners and national championships don't count? get a clue nerds.

Oh i forgot, we live in a society where what happened 5 minutes ago is ancient history. So teams with absolutely ZERO tradition like USF that just started football in 1970 are better?

Give me a break. Do some research. learn something.

Yes, our fan base may be terrible, but our tradition is not. He could have had us ranked exactly where we are without making that uninformed comment.

I completely agree with you, but the statement speaks to the larger perception problem that we face. Those of us from SMU can talk tradition and history til we're blue in the face; doesn't mean it counts for anything to someone who isn't a part of it or tangentially associated with it. We need to be much more vocal about our past and not just expect disconnected folks to know it, especially in this age of the 15-second attention span

a large percentage of the earth population wasn't alive the last time we won a championship in football or basketball. Is there a school above us that you can say that about. Maybe Vandy?* Did they ever win an Sec championship in their competitive years.

*actually reigning Sec Tournament Champs

If someone is old enough to remember pony express, let's say age 12 at the time, they are now in their mid 40s.

To everyone younger we have a tradition of being, literally, one of the worst DI-A schools.

There is a good number of high school athletes where you have to go to a grandfather to find a relative who knows a non-pathetic SMU

"Grandpa says in his day SMU was good!". Real tradition.
