clearly "Metro" is what we are. ECU "on the bubble" for full membership but I would say this could help Tulsa. Doesn't bode well for USM, although they were once a member of the old Metro. Bottom line is that any new members will have to add value that will at least generate the same split of TV revenue for an increased number of member schools

ECU is a pretty good school and has plenty of alumni in the Raleigh-Durham and Charlotte markets. I run into a lot of "Pirates" here in Charleston and they are scattered around SC in Columbia & Greenville as well so I personally like them as full members. I would think folks in Dallas would favor Tulsa as a good program that helps build regional rivalries

Smart to distribute the money over the course of seven years vs lump sum. If A school leaves in the next year or two they don't leave with the fat check already in their pocket...

The Cindy AD seems smart to be wary of the Florida schools passing his school by in the next round of musical chairs. Hopefully all of the hard work and planning (facilities etc) puts us in a good position. And he's right about having to win and win quickly is paramount.

I am opposed to using East or any other direction in the name. Too limiting. American Metro and Continental are my choices. About the money, I will post what I said on an erlier thread. Let's say there is $110 million to split. I think all teams have been hurt equally, no extra sympathy for the 3 "original" BE guys. They were the unchosen. Give UC, UCONN, and USF $10 mil each, waive all entrance fees for the rest and apportion by entrance date. $4.5 to Temple, $4.0 to SMU, Houston, UCF, Memphis, $3.5 to Tulane and ECU, $3 million to Navy and #12. That makes $46.5 mil left. Put it in the bank and pay out an additional $1 mil/ year to each team so long as they stay in the Conference. That would make us the 6th highest paid Conference, better than MWC. This is a NEW conference and previous rules do not apply. I think we need a Challenge Cup with the Big East in 2014...least they could do...and beat them showing we have some Bball ready to play with the "best".

So no extra sympathy but they get more than twice as much money as anyone else? Not sure I follow your logic.

Since momentum seems to be growing for something centered around "Metropolitan", I thought I would check the ranking (population wise) of the cities we will play in. Obviously some of these rankings are a bit misleading because they are based on city limits population rather than total metro area. I got bored with this exercise before I found Greenville, NC (ECU)

# 4 - Houston
# 5 - Philadelphia
# 9 - Dallas
# 20 - Memphis
# 24 - Baltimore (Navy)
# 45 - Tulsa (future member?)
# 51 - New Orleans
# 53 - Tampa
# 64 - Cincinnati
# 78 - Orlando
# 202 - Hartford

Now if we can just find a way to attract more of those Dallasites to our campus to help fill the seats at Ford and Moody on game days!

You need to look at market size... That's what's most relevant for tv revenue. We're a top 5 market.

Should we consider adding a couple of Metro BB schools, e.g. St. Louis U., VCU (Richmond), George Mason (DC), Loyola (Chicago), Wichita State, etc., along with adding Tulsa. I wish we would have preempted Catholic7/BE and gotten Butler and Creighton, for example.

This is all still about football. None of those schools bring anything to the table from a revenue perspective.

Waving our entrance fees is worth several mil. I didn't know how much, so I guessed about 5 mil. Therefore, the amounts seem right to me. The most important things is to not give all the money away now. Keep doling it out to teams who stay in the Conference. Is anyone listening?

absolutely not. I think all members should be all sports, with the exception of Navy football. Need to build a cohesive group. I do think we should build a relationship with the Big East for non-conferencfe games, though. We should try and schedule a series with Creighton

Aresco mentioned a second basketball TV deal in the works. Why wouldn't adding strong basketball schools from the remaining A10 or Valley that are located in large markets enhance our overall revenue? The conference had planned on taking ECU just for football, why not add the right schools to generate more revenue from the basketball side?

Metro is a good description of the Smu student body
