Tulsa will join the soon-to-be-renamed Big East Conference in 2014, while East Carolina will be added as a full member, sources told ESPN.
The league's presidents are expected to vote on adding the Golden Hurricane by next week, sources told ESPN's Andy Katz.
A source told ESPN that the addition of Tulsa is "imminent." Adding the Golden Hurricane would give the league 12 schools when Navy joins in 2015

Tulsa is a stronger program than them so I think it's good. They're not a powerhouse like Tulane though.

I haven't been closely following the changes in The Big East, Catholic 7, etc. as it seems to change daily. But it would seem a new name for this conference, based on current membership might be Conference USA. Any other good names still available?

this way this seems to all be falling into place, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that SMU and the other former CUSA schools are paying CUSA $100 million to take the name with them.

I don't get why the new BE wants Tulsa. They are a tiny school with hardly any fans. While their football is decent right now, they could just as easily fall off a cliff for the next 20 years.
I would think that taking UMass out of the MAC would be a better long term move. Its in a bigger metro area by far, it has way more alumni and students, and they have decent basketball history to go with their new commitment to football.
Perhaps it doesnt matter as I think y'all have a decent chance of ending up in the ACC depending on how many other schools are willing to pay whatever Maryland eventually settles on as their penalty for leaving.

The nBE has the requirement of warm bodies for conference membership. How is it surprising that Tulsa is joining...?

This has been rumored for quite a while, and is a good addition. The conference obviously is different from what it was when we joined, but Tulsa is a school of similar size, we have had competitive games with them in a lot of sports, and it's within driving range.
Good on ya', Big East.

Tulsa brings competitive programs, better fan support than we have and is another regional rival. I was hoping and also assuming this would happen
