CBS: Steelers Have Tough Decision With Sanders

Steelers Have Tough Decision With Sanders
By: Colin Dunlap - CBS Pittsburgh

Careful what you wish for, Steelers fans.

The extemporaneous, off-the-cuff, "let Emmanuel Sanders walk" response needs a bit more investigation. The situation needs a good, hard think before just shipping him off to New England.

On Wednesday, it was reported by NFL.com that Sanders, targeted to be a Steelers starting receiver this coming season, signed an offer sheet from the New England Patriots. In short, the choices are simple: Match the offer or he is off to the land of Belichick and burned videotapes.

The knee-jerk reaction from all corners of Steelers Nation has been, for the most part, to let Sanders go.

That might end up, ultimately, being the most prudent move for the Steelers. One should at least understand the merits of keeping Sanders around before being hasty, however.

Gronkowski may not see the field in 2013 and with the loss of Welker, Pats are looking for more options for Brady. Would love to see Emanuel in red , white, and blue (again).

I've always thought the NFL overvalues draft picks. You've got a guy in ES who's a proven commodity at WR and is about to enter the prime of his career, are you really going to just let him walk and roll the dice on another draft pick? Besides, third round picks wash out of the league all of the time.

The Steelers are one of the better run organizations in the NFL who understand that you have to build through the draft to be successful, and it's not like ES wants Mike Wallace money. I'd be surprised if they let him walk.
