BE A MUSTANG!

I was at lunch with 3 other SMU fans the other day and the first topic of conversation was the Bush Library and events surrounding the opening. A comment was made about the BUSH/SMU banners on Mockingbird, Lemmon and Hillcrest. One of the guys said he had seen them in Oak Cliff (Davis Street) and also in East Dallas. With all of the local, state and national publicity that has thrust SMU into the spotlight, the idea came up that now was the time to make a strong appeal to the north Texas area to "BE A MUSTANG!" - an invitation, of sorts, saying that anybody, any age, any location, qualifies to be one. I likened it to "Be a Pepper". We continued to "brainstorm" -- suggesting A MUSTANG can be a blue hair, a kindergartner, a middle school student -- people from all walks of life. We agreed that more people will be finding out where we are and who we are and that now is the time to capitalize on this so we don't experience a lost opportunity. "Dallas is..." is agency-artsy and all but we were thinking people would be receptive to the idea that they could be a part of something and that they were being welcomed by the invitation to BE A MUSTANG! We all agreed we're still too distant (and seemingly inaccessible) in our approach. It's perception. Just thought I'd share. Lunch was good.
