SMU vs. UNT

12 seasons in a row? I'd thought SMU would like more scheduling flexibility.
"The North Texas-SMU series, dubbed the "Safeway Bowl," resumes next season in Denton and then each year through 2025. The two rivals will meet in Denton in even years and in Dallas in odd years."

I have no problem with this (although extending it to 12 years might be questionable) since we are playing so many games all over the country. this will give us an extra game in the region that we can all attend. NTSU has a nice stadium now so it that negative is gone. finally, the game should sellout every year-it may not but it damn sure should. We need the cash as the AAC will likely bring smaller crowds than NTSU. Since SMU fans won't buy tickets we''ll have borrow some of NTSU so we aren't embarrassed by attendance numbers we need to improve our expansion hopes. Plus the local media coverage will likely be better

I agree, the games should draw well and the extra media attention will be nice. But don't TCU games accomplish the same thing?
A 12 year deal really limits SMU's scheduling flexibility. If the AAC follows other conferences and eventually adopts a nine game schedule, playing TCU & UNT every year means SMU will only have one OOC game to play. Assuming they still want to play Baylor, Navy and TTU, we'll have to wait for bowl games for different matchups.

did Hart agree to this? 12 years in a row is way too long. we could very much lose to UNT often and Hart will hurt.

We better kick their sorry asses 12 years in a row. We also better put an end to this made up "safeway bowl" crap. Just cause some angry nobody employed by NTSU whines in a parking lot more than 20 years ago doesn't make something out of nothing. They were a periodically scheduled [deleted] whooping. Now their an annual [deleted] whooping.

Navy will be in the American so they would not be ooc.

I like it as well. Local rivalries are very good for all involved (including the Metroplex). Plus, it'll force our program to be on its toes, you can't lose to UNT, not while you're trying to make it into a Big 5 conference.

Is this to protect us from another scheduling situation like this coming season? Insures us one OOC game that isn't a killer.

It is a big downside if we lose. How pathetic we have to worry about that

Kind of meh but we could do worse than this, it's a local game so travel shouldn't be an excuse for not going (we should never go further than Lubbock for OOC games) and we should win all 12 unless something goes horribly wrong with the program (like June still being here past 2014).

Don't want to be caught scrambling to track down a Montana St in years to come?
