8. (tie) Southern Methodist University

Seasons with vacated wins: 1998
Total wins vacated: 5

No, these sanctions didn't have anything to do with the five hookers Craig James killed there. They did have to do with an SMU assistant football coach agreeing to pay some kid to take the ACT test on behalf of one of his recruits. That erased the football team's 5-7 1998 season.

This relatively minor infraction killed Cavan's enormous recruiting momentum.

Didn't he also buy the kid's prom date a dress? And a limo ride?

I don't remember that either. And to add insult to injury, we cheated and only got 5 wins out of it.

Here is a detailed report from SMU-I don't think I realized Coach Mallin was brought to SMU by Tom Rossley rather than Cavan. It doesn't mention Prom-Gate

thanks for posting, Stallion. That jogs my memory a little. I remember some issues with Steve Main, but couldn't recall the outcome.

Has there ever been a time when SMU didn't cheat?

I'm not trolling this time. I'm actually being serious.

We have run the cleanest program in America for the last quarter of a century and have self reported even the tiniest infractions.

SMU has been one of the cleanest athletic departments in the nation over the last several years. So to answer your question....YES.

Like I said, poor troll attempt. It's like asking "Is there any time when Cougar High didn't have great academics?" We all recognize that they don't but maybe did in the past, perhaps for less time than SMU was cheating.
