Yeah, my post was sarcasm, I forgot to put it in sarcasm font. It's great that Turner is the chair.

Is it too late to say "I told you so..."

No, it is not good idea for Turner to be head of the conference. Just like it was not a good idea to head up the Knight Commission. SMU doesn't need to be forced to set the example or live with higher standards on behalf of the conference or the NCAA. SMU should set standards for itself that are competitive with those we chose to compete with rather than trying to set an unrealistic example for others.

I still envisage that cartoon, with Gerald up in the tree sawing off the limb of the tree he sits on with all the other university presidents standing below him, cheering him on, encouraging him to raise the academic standards, etc. and then laughing at him when he (and SMU) are seen lying on the ground alone--with a mediocre athletic program.

Turner didn't get Tulane into the AAC.
Turner is not trying to sabotage athletics.
Turner being the head of the conference is good for SMU.

100% with you on that, Mex.

His ego must be sky high as I'm sure he sees this as validation for his positions and efforts (lack of same) over the years.

Do you mean you told us so about turner being the only big east president who had a personal relationship with the Tulane president?

Agree 78 pony. This dashes all hopes that Turner is working (or will be working) to get us into a power 5 conference.

Would love to have seen that cartoon, Mex.

Will Turner work to destroy the conference he heads by getting us in to a better conference?

Unless Turner has zero desire for us to move up he now occupies two roles in direct opposition to each other.

Probably why he got the job. Either everyone else said no or he drew the short straw.
