Most of them are pretty basic - an "I" on a red helmet, an "I" on a white helmet, the classic number on the helmet look, but there is one chrome stripped helmet along with the torch logo from the Indiana state flag - which I actually think is a good idea.

I can't fault IU for doing this; they have to create buzz any way they can for their football team.

They are getting a lot of S for this in various online communities. The funniest take is teams shouldn't be allowed to have more uniforms than wins in the previous season...

I know certain factions would like for SMU to do this kind of thing, but I sure hope it never comes to this.

Recruits like this kind if stuff. I'm not saying to go with six different helmets but it would be mice if SMU did so,etching to mix it up. Hell, im even cool with the black jerseys. Create a little swagger. Everyone does it now a days. We need to stop being dinosaurs and get on the bandwagon.

I'm good with all or any of these. It at least shows the program is trying. I know we have more than our fair share of fashion police on this board, but there are too few of us that really follow this program closely to worry about. If they didn't leave during the Pye years, Cavan...etc. They are not going to leave now. Anything that jump starts interest from more people or more players is worth trying.

Yes, recruits like this stuff, but tradition matters, too. I could see designating one game, maybe a game against some no-name OOC game (their version of Montana State) for a one-time alternate helmet, but six? Sorry, but that's ridiculous.

Maybe it's the kind of thing a program can do when it is getting a "power conference" payout?

Michigan and Ohio State are getting the exact same power conference payout, but you don't see them dressing up in silly costumes.

Both of those programs have much more storied histories than Indiana......they don't need any shtick with their uniforms.
