Maybe all of the reporting inaccuracies highlight how insignificant SMU has become in sports. This is the third source that hasn't cared to fact check.

Gilbert was turnover prone however and half 15 interceptions on the season.
the Mustangs were OK[,] ranked 54th in scoring defense
giving up 278 yards passing a game [per?]
with Texas Tech, Texas A&M[,] and TCU
The league is a step up from C-USA and if the defense doesn’t improve against the pass it’s going to be a long season. [run-on sentence. consider revising]
