Obviously an example of JJ's total failure to recruit...

Mustangsabu,

Please tell me you're kidding. This is an exhibition game. Yes it is exciting to see this but until we see it in an actual game I won't go to the JJ diamond in the rough well. People fail to realize of the four WR's that we currently have in the NFL, June Jones only recruited one of them. Maybe we should've kept the Mustache around to find the talent for June to coach!

We better have more than 4 good players in the entire class to move to the next level. Plus Traylon, Zelt and JaBryce were the highest rated recruits in the class. If it is just a few out of an entire class that are good then yes, it is a failure to recruit. A few players that pan out don't make a solid class. Depth has been a main issue for years.

Agreed. Minor, Taylor, and Gaines (especially Gaines) are legit "big time" recruits. I think they all start by some point during the season. My only question is why are these guys playing in these high school all star games NOW? They should be working out for SMU and getting into the playbook. Kudos to Taylor, though. Good stuff. At least, they should be in good shape coming into camp.

Might be an error but the Dallas Morning News said he finished with six catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns as the offensive MVP.

JJ should be recruiting better, but in fairness to him, this past years' class was JJ's first class to graduate (Zach Line's class) so he hasn't had a lot of chance to put wr's into the NFL. JJ arrived in what, January, just a little before Cole Beasley's class' signing date (Cole Beasley had already committed to SMU under Phil Bennett).

That being said, there doesn't appear to be a lot of/any NFL quality wr's in the upper classes. JJ's absolutely upgraded athleticism and size at wr (go watch a practice, there are 15 athletic, good sized wr's who don't have great hands) but JJ has sourced these guys from other positions and/or they weren't heavily recruited because they were from run oriented offenses. The downside is that you get athletes who are projects who may never develop hands and that looks like what we've got (look at Keenan Holman and Arrius Holleman - big, fast and have hands of stone).

That was in the first half, so yes it had to be a misprint by the DMN. The yardage record was 176 which he broke. He had 10 catches which was 1 shy of the matching the game record of 11.
