UT Transfer Alert

DT Ashton Dorsey from Tyler John Tyler (Jeremy Johnson) -was pretty productive when not hurt. Apparently demoted to third team due partly to injury. Surprising in that he was about to enter Senior year so only 1 year left. I don't think he redshirted though so he could have a year left after sitting out or could go to Division 1AA. I'd take him for a year

Would be great if we could get him in for 2014. At 6'2" 295 he could definitely fill in along the DL and especially at NT for us, a position lacking depth and very important to running an effective 3-4

weird situation since the season opens next week. Most of the time Senior transfers will head to lower Division but in this case its kind of late for even that. It won't impress NFL scouts if he is lost in a new system. He's struggling with an injury too. Enroll at SMU sit out 2013 and he'd be eligible to play 1 year from now. He needs to make a fast decision whatever he does

Sounds good to me, but only if he's got that "quick twitch" (Jerry Jones voice).

So how does it work? He has to approach us, right? What limitations are there in contact, etc?

first needs release from UT-they're pretty good about that and won't dare [deleted] Tyler John Tyler off. Then he is a recruitable athlete again. I bet Jeremy Johnson is a close friend

As a practical matter, do we recruit as we would a JC guy? How much recruiting did we actually do for GG, Snead, and co? I am not sure I remember how it all came down, I remember them coming to us, but someone must have proactive about it?

maybe former SMU assistant Oscar Giles is sending them our way. All I know is he has about 4 former teammates at SMU if he wants to stay FBS

He's friends with and played hs ball with Ward, one of our freshman qbs (who had a SMU offer) and Bowser one of our freshman DEs so hopefully they will get him to spend his last year on Cullen.

Figured he wouldn't want to sit out a year. Oh well.

Why not cut our recruiting budget and not recruit high schools except for those highest rated who want to come to SMU. Take advantage of SMU's location, educational and playing opportunities to offer those athletes around the country who have graduated in 3 years (remember that with early enrollment, redshirting and taking 2 sessions of summer school it isn't that hard to graduate in three years). They would still have at least 2 years of eligibility and don't need ncaa approval since already had graduated. That way we get proven players and don't have to deal with the Texas high school coaches which seems to be a problem in the past for this staff.

Not sure about that idea, ghost, but I think we really do need to focus on getting transfers from Texas, A&M, OU, and SEC schools that are talented but unhappy.

With that being said, we need to develop our own players here for 4-5 years as well
