"If Kelly can snap the ball 80 times per game in the NFL, Baylor’s Art Briles, SMU’s June Jones and Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin could get the next calls from the NFL. They also run explosive, fast-paced offenses on Saturdays. Kelly has the chance to open the door for them on Sundays."http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/dallas ... briles.ece

We do not have a fast paced offense, just a pass oriented offense.

June has already coached in the NFL once and it didn't exactly go well.

it would be interested to see how many plays per game, or even plays per quarter we average vs the more traditional offense. I would be willing to bet SMU runs the same or probably fewer plays. We are slower than Christmas getting them into the game. Part of why our games take so dang long to watch.

So clearly this guy doesn't follow SMU football.

Well as long as we have as many incompletes and dropped balls as we do, we save time on the clock. Therefore more plays.

I could see Sumlin in the NFL. If he continues to have success, he's still pretty young. Not sure about Briles. Finally, the NFL is yesterday's news for JJ.

I think we use as much time off the clock as possible on offense as a stall tactic.

If you don't make a lot of first downs (as in SMU 2012) then you want to take as much time off of the clock between plays as possible. Keeps the other team's offense off of the field longer and cuts down on their total snaps. A long, protracted game always benefits the more talented team and we have not been the most talented team very often.

Which is why we pass so often with a narrow lead late on the forth quarter.

JJ will never go back to coaching in the NFL because the QBs have those helmets with the built-in headphones. He wouldn't be able to make the QB run to the sideline between each play.
