I am for a proven coach at any cost. But I don't write the checks. If we have to go up and comer, what about Hudspeth? Currently at ULaLa. Great winning percentage.

Sounds solid to me, anyone here know more about him? Looks like he's produced some quality teams at North Alabama and ULaLa.

I think we need a higher profile coach. Not sure that coaches at the directional schools can recruit/ get accepted the players that we need How many 4* and 5* do they get that would get into SMU?

At this point how many solid ( BCS offers) 3* do we have like one or two...

a 5 star is one of the Top 30-35 players in country. 4 stars is a Texas Top 40 or something. We aren't going to ever get many of those-maybe 1-2-maybe more if the program develops

Wasn't referring to grades exclusively. I was referring to other issues.

We don't need any 4/5 stars to vastly improve our recruiting or to win our conference.

so you are saying that the DIRs that jj recruits are just fine????. IIRC a number of them were 3*s so we need to move up from that.

Getting more 3*'s with BCS offers would really help.

IMO 3*s with a couple of BCS offers are the 'bottom of the barrell'. We need to aim much higher and hopefully we will get a coach who agrees and can really step up our recruiting.

Most of our current players play hard and to the best of their ability but they are just outclassed when you try to compete with BCS schools ala TT, TCU, Baylor and A$M.

No. As I said, and has been pointed out a lot of times, big difference between our current recruits and 3* recruits with other offers. Check out tcu's recruits for the past decade (pre big 12). Very few 4 stars and 0 5 stars. They seem to have enough talent to compete with the big boys.

Hudspeth loads up with Miss JCs and players who aren't qualified on signing date. He's taking advantage of the SEC rule about no-oversigning. Last year he got burned some, as probably 2/3 of the top of his class didn't qualify; but the prior year it worked (and it still worked some last year).
