Gilbert misses practice

SMU quarterback Garrett Gilbert sat out of Tuesday's practice because of soreness in his right (throwing) shoulder.

Gilbert said after practice that there is nothing structurally damaged in the shoulder, and that the soreness has nothing to do with the surgery he had before he joined the Mustangs last season. Instead, the soreness was the result of having a big defensive lineman fall on him in Saturday's win over Connecticut.

Although he just watched practice, Gilbert iced the shoulder after practice and said he expects to resume practicing tomorrow.

Redshirt freshman Neal Burcham took all snaps with the first-team offense as the Mustangs prepare for Saturday's game at South Florida.

Hopefully he's ready to go. God help us if Gilbert can't play.

Worst case scenario I'd believe in Burcham to beat USF. Maybe I'm on some good meds, maybe not :D

GG has been great in conference play this season, but I'm really looking forward to Burcham in 2014. He's got a lot of talent

We should start Burcham as to not risk injuring GG for Houston and UCF. Burcham can take USF and beat em badly.

I saw that play and then saw where Mumme came over and asked him how he was. I don't think the guy needs to throw another ball until Saturday. Burcham could use all the practice reps he can get.

Best advice I can give you- read the boards for a few weeks before posting. You'll learn a lot and have a lot more facts to base your opinions on

You are a complete dumba$$. Please just do not post anymore until you've carefully thought about what you're going to say. (Life lesson)

Let's just not field a team against USF to avoid injury to everyone. Then they will forfeit the game out of confusion.

I said PRACTICE reps for Burcham. We should definitely start GG against USF if he's healthy. (or maybe these comments weren't directed at me).
