because he was terrible this year maybe? I'm not trying to be mean, but he just had a really really bad year and maybe needed a new start or something.

Because he's earned his BA and can't punt or place kick, why stay.

The dude had offers from Army, Columbia, University of San Diego, and Air Force and in his last year of HS (the only one I can find stats for) he was 4 of 8 on field goals and 46 of 49 on extra points and only averaged 34 yards a punt. No, that's not net, that's average distance.

Well, as long as we are using an exceptionally low standard (aka "the June standard"), then yes.

Apparently a much better punter than kicker but still ranked highly in both categories. #28 punter and #105 kicker.

I also read where he had a ton of kicks inside the 20 ... was praised for his ability to directional punt and pin the opponent down. I don't know what the average ball placement was on 4th down when he punted. If he is punting from his 40 or the 50th ... why blast away for a potential touchback, or return if you can pin the ball or hang it forever for a fair catch. Like I said, I don't know where the puts started from, just suggesting that the avg might not tell the whole story. From what I see/read ... appears to have skill ... and smarts. Sort of like assuming a pitcher with a 15-15 record is average at best, until you find out his ERA was sub 2.00. I guess time will tell.

ahh I miss Morestead-I try to block that loss out of my mind cause it hurts so bad. He's the only punter I truly ever cared for

One of the great walk-ons that started for Bennett's last season (I counted 3 walk-on starters that he, ah-hem, recruited)

Morestead had the biggest hit of the year in June's first 1-11 season on a punt return. I thought he killed the poor kid.

Oh, and Loftus sucked. No loss whatsoever.

Loftus' first two years punting were pretty solid. Last year was below average, but it was no worse than the walk-on before him that was probably the worst starting D1 punter I've ever seen. We better be ready to cover on kickoffs because Loftus was probably the best kickoff specialist we've had at this school.
