Kind of interesting - according to rivals we have 19 open offers out there. 10 are from the Dallas area (if we pull Aledo and Witchita Falls into Dallas), 2 in Oklahoma, 3 in Houston, 1 in Waco, and 3 from other states ( I think pre-Morris). Pretty much as expected?

recruiting kids from the DFW metro area will also help improve attendance as more family and friends learn the way to Ford

SMU has been stating this for almost 20 years (both basketball and football) and has anyone seen a noticeable difference?

Well...we have only really been recruiting kids hard from DFW for about 3 weeks now, so we'll have to wait to find out.

Sadly...4 more DFW kids equals probably 25 more parents/grand parents/siblings...which would be a noticeable jump in attendance over last season!

In all seriousness, the DFW recruiting push will impact attendance as will a better team...but the changes will take a few seasons to really be felt. Have to prove to the local fan without strong ties to another regional team why they should turn off the TV and show up to campus for a game. On a positive note, we might get some UT fans to change since they still probably can't find the longhorn network!

DFW recruiting needs to be a "year over year" thing. That's the only way SMU will ever become Dallas' team. Let's face it, not many outside the SMU community relate to our school. Most locals follow the big state schools but if SMU can become a destination for more local talent, maybe SMU can improve it's local image. I think Doherty started that when he got Shawn and Nick to transfer "back home". Let's hope Morris & Co can recruit large numbers of Dallas area kids

Was at the game today and definitely noticed a difference from my student years. Local kids on a quality squad that entertains...the perfect solution to the SMU attendance problem. Now, if they could get more advertising locally I would like it, but I may have just missed it in my week back in town. What I can say is the much more polished product on display at the basketball game (even with a new years eve game that was underattended but still loud) needs to find its way to football, as well as the product, and attendance will follow. The program in football is like the field in "Field of Dreams..." if you build it, they will come.

It depends upon how you define the Dallas area, but I count approx. 30. See for yourself: http://www.smumustangs.com/sports/m-foo ... l-mtt.html
