SMU lands Fort Worth DL

Patrick Jones, a DE/DT at Arlington Heights High School in Arlington Heights, announced Sunday (via Twitter) that he has committed to SMU. The 6-1, 277-pound (4.71 in the 40-yard dash) Jones chose SMU over offers from Toledo and Louisiana-Monroe and interest from TCU.

40-yard dash: 4.92
Vertical jump: 33.3 inches

He's listed between 6-1 and 6-3 on both Rivals and Scout. His Nike SPARQ performance would lead one to believe he'd have more offers at this point in the game. Regardless he's a perfect spin down tackle candidate as he's already 270 plus pounds going into his senior year of high school. By the time he gets to SMU he'll be a 285 pounder that we can plug into our defensive line rotation. Kudos to the staff for getting on this kid early. I bet we see him receive several more offers before NSD.

Jones is the brother (I guess step brother) of TCU freshman Ty Barrett who is 6-5-maybe he grows
