Is chop blocking legal in college?

Navy chops the entire game. Defensive linemen attack the offense only to meet the turf or suffer torn ligaments.
I saw a similar block in the Seattle vs Tampa Bay game today that was flagged as a chop.

Legal as long as the chop doesn't occur simultaneously as someone else is engaged up high

Navy cut blocks. It is not a chop block. A chop block is two linemen engaging one defender high and low. A cut block is just going at the knees. Tough to defend and dangerous but legal.

As if anyone can distinguish a chop from a cut in the interior mess that navy creates by diving at knees. Guarantee there was upper body contact coming from slant as well when green got hurt. Its ridiculous, cutting should only be allowed on edges or open field.

If they didn't block that way their offense goes nowhere.

How ironic. Offensive linemen must wear knee braces to protect themselves whilst they cut the legs of the assigned defensive linemen for each running play.

Growing up, my school ran the Veer. We did it and had it done to us (every option team uses a similar blocking scheme).
I don't recall ANY DL on our team or the other team going down to a knee injury. Why are there so many injuries now?
