Unusual transfer to get a guy with mostly western states/PAC-12 connections. Coach Leavitt working to build his defense! Good to get an experienced guy who knows Leavitt's D.

I read somewhere (should have written down the source) that two years ago, Slade-Matautia was the only linebacker in the country with 60 or more tackles and 10 or more passes broken up.

A fourth-year junior, Slade-Matautia tied for the team lead with 45 tackles for the Ducks last season with 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and five pass breakups. In 2019, he had 62 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and 11 pass breakups, tied for the most nationally among linebackers, in 2019.


Playing in Leavitt’s 3-4 defense as a freshman in 2018, Slade-Matautia had 20 tackles, with two for loss, over seven games before a broken collarbone ended his season.

He was the #2 overall recruit coming out of Hawaii (behind some kid named Tua ). Only natural explanation is that June put in a good word for us....

Leavitt, our new DC, was his coach at Oregon.

Can't wait to see this guy in the defense. He should be the on-field coach/tutor needed with a new system.

For what it's worth, he is not (or maybe not yet) listed on the SMU roster.

I believe he is finishing a class at Oregon and then coming late in fall camp
