What a difference 3 weeks can make!

Post by highlander »

After the BYU game, I (and a few others) were calling for RLs head. But last week and tonight we were by far the more disciplined team.

I decided to trust RL when he made the decision to go with KJ. A lot of us were surprised at the move, but I assumed he knew more than we did. He nailed that one. KJ was darned near perfect tonight ΓÇö gorgeous passes, and he never came close to turning the ball over.

A lot of credit goes to Coach King for working with our QBs and developing the guys in that room. It's looking more and more like we should be thanking Sonny for deciding he had "taken this SMU program as far as he could" and heading west to cowtown.

Yep - and now heΓÇÖs taking that program as far down as he can.

Still a lot of football to be played and the better TCU performs the better it looks for SMU. They still have a good program over there in cowtown but hopefully Rhett will continue building our program to be even better

Screw that. I hope they lose every game they play and return to obscurity.

Starting Friday night against UH which hasnΓÇÖt scored in two games.

Is Preston going to transfer? HeΓÇÖs not playing as backup.

Does Preston have only one more season of college eligibility or two? Chandler Morris is in his 5th college season and is listed as a JR on UNT's roster. Will Preston be UNT's next QB or will Sonny try to recruit him to TCU? Of course if Jennings was to get hurt, Preston is right back into the lineup so we'll just have to wait and see how things play out. If Preston jumps into the portal, I'm sure there will be plenty of interest...maybe even from Florida State!

Chandler graduated HS in 2020 and gets a Covid year.

Preston graduated in 2021 and has already redshirted. Just curious since Kendrick Luster has gotten the backup snaps. Maybe coach is leaving Preston out in case of injury or he has another redshirt year? Was one due to injury. HeΓÇÖs still a captain so it was good to see him and KJ out for the coin toss.

If there's garbage time, they aren't sending Preston in. That would be a slap in the face. Injuries happen and Preston would be right back in the game.
Will he enter the portal? Only he knows that. He's making excellent NIL money but not sure if that's contingent on him starting.

If he has a future on the next level, zero issues with him entering the portal. He's a good young man and I don't begrudge him doing what's best for him. Do I want him to leave? Hell no. But people come first for me. Usually.

And while I'm on my soapbox, Jennings is good. The tired trope of "if you have 2 starting QBs then you have none" is ridiculous. We are fortunate to have two legit starting qbs. Don't know how long lol?

I love Preston, but Jennings is legit. And Jason and others are much more eloquent in explaining why he's the qb now.

I think youΓÇÖre reading it wrong. The reason Luster comes in for mop-up duty is because heΓÇÖs such a powerful runner. HeΓÇÖs the guy who can keep it on the ground, get positive yardage every snap, and grind out the yardage to drain the clock.

I agree that some are reading it wrong, but I see a different reason: when you're up big (say, when you're crushing TCU or running all over the defending ACC champs), it's risky to put Stone in. What if he goes in and takes a bad hit? Then you potentially lose your real backup quarterback for no reason. If KJ is the guy, it is important to keep Stone healthy, in case you need him later.

Luster is the last thing a worn out defense wants to see: a powerful runner who is fresh and has something to prove.
