McFall selected to Doak Walker Award watch list
DALLAS (SMU) ΓÇô SMU running back Derrick McFall has been named to the 2025 Doak Walker Award Watch List on Tuesday, the PxC SMU Athletic Forum announced in a release.
Named a four-star prospect by multiple publications, McFall brought an explosive performance to the Mustangs in 2024. Although he only appeared in five games, the redshirt freshman registered 26 rushes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. The Texas native made an impact immediately, rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown in his SMU debut against Houston Christian last year.
The prestigious Doak Walker Award was created in 1989 to honor the nation's most outstanding collegiate running back. Named for the 1948 Heisman Trophy winner and three-time All-America selection from SMU, the Doak Walker Award recognizes a football player's outstanding performance on the field, as well as his achievements in the community and in the classroom.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November, and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will also be announced in November. The committee will cast a second vote in December to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives. The recipient of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024.
