You would think ESPN or ABC would have made more sense....

Oh no. What does an 8:07 PM kickoff do to our crowd? The blue-hairs hardly stay until half-time for a 6PM kickoff and the young HP parents gotta get little Johnny and little Suzy home to the au pair for their bedtime story.

That would be awesome but I thought once they settle a time, it's rare for them to change it because it would knock off another team from that time slot?

As this year has shown, schedules can change in less than a few days.

Michigan and Minnesota are set for ABC, but nothing in that timeslot on ESPN. What else could they be showing then? https://www.espn.com/college-football/schedule/_/week/8
