Re: Can a successful coach be fired for poor recruiting?
I really am not anti-Jones, but I too am concerned. I am paraphrasing, but three comments by June stick in my mind. 1) At a luncheon back in October I believe, he said we are now competing against AQ schools for recruits. 2) I dont believe it was the same luncheon, but in response to another ...

Re: jones makes house calls
I don't necessarily want him gone, I want him to hire a staff that is willing to recruit and knows Texas, I want him to continue to have the focus that he did for the Pitt game, I wanted him to not just waive the white flag when it came to our klemm recruits, and I want him not to spend a weekend in ...

This may be old news but I have not seen it on the board. I understand Zach has signed with one of the Arkansas directional schools (not sure which one) so he could play right away. If true, this would open up another scholarship and also make us even thinner at linebacker. It also might explain ...

Re: Who's Left?
Another board says Jackson is strongly considering Wyoming, but the grades may take him toward JUCO - we are not in the picture. On Jones, apparently not really any interest - I am not sure if we were not that interested or he decided to go another direction.

Onus Lambert
6'2, 225 lb linebacker from Jacksonville,Fla has committed to S. Carolina according to the Jacksonville paper. Apparantly it came down to SCAR, Wake and us. We seem to be recruiting this area pretty well, but missed on this one.

Re: Cedric Vinson
You mention a couple of sources in your posts. Do they have websites or strictly newsletter? I would appreciate an address so I can contact them next year. It helps to have more than one of two prospectives.

Re: Wish list for 2001 season
How about getting some turnovers - young players don't know when to take chances. With everyone back in the secondary, it is time for some playmakers to step forward. Let's shorten the field for the offense.

Re: With 18 to 20 ships to give out
I understand this is our last big weekend and we will pretty well finish our class if things fall the way the coaches hope. Apparently there is not much chance of getting any JUCO help - may be mostly the coach's choice. Only 18 total will probably be given. Mostly linemen will get ships out of this ...

Florida Recruits
We seem to be doing some good recruiting work in Florida. Anyone know of any sites for Florida recruits that would show how they are rated? The top kids are out on the major recruiting sites, but not much about the next tier. Any newspapers carry top lists like the Dallas and Fort Worth papers do ...

Cavan's attitude is a little frustrating. On the great teams of the 80's we had a number of players who participated in track. A few sprinters would help both programs.

Re: Trey Griffin Commits!
One of the things Copeland said at the meeting last week was that the new school recruiting rules would let us get the prospects in earlier. He said we had a couple of big december weekends for a change. Looks like we had a good group in and got some results last weekend. Lets hope this weekend is ...

Re: Recruiting this year!!!
I agree there seems to be more interest. Last year at this time the Morning News showed 5 state 100 and 11 area 100 kids interested. This year it is 8 state and 26 area. The Star Telegram also shows our numbers up but not as much - 5 state kids up from 4 last year and 8 area kids up from 7 last year ...

Re: Kicking game???
Crowley did as we should expect. He made the extra points, made a good effort on the one that was wide left (he will make more than he misses from that distance) and missed the one which was beyond his range (generally means the kicker tries to drive the ball and does not get enough height - also ...
