Re: JJ's push to sell out SFA opener

I admire the great push to sellout SFA. It is going out on a limb and SMU has needed that.

That said, there is no way that SMU will come close to having a full house for the opener.

Re: Favorite BLVD Pix

I was hoping to get a few better pics when clicking on this thread. PP you gotta have some better photos than those correct?

Also, is BUS wearing mom-jeans in that last photo?

Re: How huge is this season?

2009 will be a 3-4 win season. SFA and two or three CUSA wins.

Earliest I think the Pones can get to a bowl realistically is 2011.

Re: ESPN Sports Center - Mel Kiper, Jr.'s Sleepers for 2009

Stallion is correct.

Kiper made a similar prediction for a much improved SMU season back during the Phil Bennett era - I forget which year.

Re: When is the first practice with hitting?

I want to see the guys in pads and doing some hitting before I go check out the D.
Not sure I would characterize what SMU has done on the football field the last couple of seasons as 'hitting'.

Slap-fighting, perhaps? Pillow-fighting? Maybe. But certainly not hitting.

Hope that changes in 2009.

Is that going to be our criteria "looking at a wwjd bracelet", when we are looking for a new coach. Hell, I thought the criteria was going to be able to win more than 10 games.

That is a good point, ASDF. I'd rather have a guy that can win games and drinks a few beers every now and then and ...

I just have a hard time finding a silver lining in Memphis beating everyone else in the conference every game, every year.

I guess if you subscribe to the idea that any publicity is good publicity than it is Ok.

If you are happy with the financial table scrapes that Memphis brings with its NCAA ...

I'm a lot younger than the John Wooden Era, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but for the most part the Pac-10 and its other teams never really got better during that era. It wasn't till Wooden left that the league became somewhat balanced.

You are correct, ASDF, about the Pac 10 and Wooden ...

Actually Gillispie and Doherty may have similar strengths and weaknesses as smart, hard-driving guys with big egos and bad tempers, but Matt is better at PR and behaving himself off the job.

True about your last sentence but Gillispie has proven that he can build a program, take a loser to a ...

Re: Goal for the rest of the season

Another "heartbreaker" last night and the team continues to find ways to lose games. However, an extreme optomist might be able to point that at least we are leading in or in games to have a chance to blow them. Previously we weren't even competitive.

In all seriousness though, we have 3 games ...

The culture change is a work-in process. That blog was dated Feb. 7 so Doh has his discipline in place as well. First year players learn at some point during their freshman year and most turn out to be model student/athletes.

BTW, Mike Dement commented that .... the only player to not have to be ...
