Re: TCU "pausing" series with SMU -- 2025 last game on sched
Wow I did not realize that 2006 was the only skipped year other than the death penalty years I thought there was another pause for a couple of years when TCU first entered the Big 12. I find it impossible that the Big 12 goes to a 10 game schedule they might as well go to the G5 if they do that ...

Re: Playoff format expected to change in wake of realignment
I agree that a "per team" rather than a "per conference" distribution of playoff proceeds makes sense and would be more equitable, although I'd like to also see performance based rewards that might provide additional shares to schools that qualify and then advance (along the lines of the basketball ...

Re: Playoff format expected to change in wake of realignment
Can't say I feel hugely optimistic about how that might play out.
Agreed; it means all of rodrodΓÇÖs certitude that the PAC is guaranteed to continue getting a full P5 share of the money will be put to the test.

Re: What Now?
I'm asking not stating... now that there is literally 4 power conferences is there a chance the American grabs the PAC 4 and becomes the 5th P5?

This has as much of a chance of happening as the AAC grabbing Big 12 schools.
Here is what SMU needs to do.

Re: If ACC doesn't happen then
Rice makes the final cut in my discussion for three reasons. One they can afford the buyout. Two they have the academics that Cal and Stanford care about. Three they are in Texas and specifically Houston. That is not to remotely say I believe they "deliver that market" because they really don't, but ...

Re: If ACC doesn't happen then
Your reply makes no sense. It is hard to say that SMU is in a far flung conference with Tulane, Rice, and Navy that are all either close to SMU or already in a conference and in the same division as SMU. The only new one is Air Force that is not all that far. You seem to not understand the draw of ...

Re: Pac-12 expansion?
As to "autonomy" there is the P5 and G5 with the P5 having 10 NCAA votes now and the G5 having 5. If you take autonomy from the PAC 12 you now have 8 P4 votes on NCAA business and the G6 having 6 votes. So you went from an advantage of 2 to 1, 10 votes vs. 5 votes, to an advantage of only two votes ...

Re: If ACC doesn't happen then
Boise is highly unlikely with Cal and Stanford. Even if they can get past "the academics" there is still the fact that Boise feast on California recruits. Part of the reason they are able to do that is players that actually want to get out of an area like Oakland or LA to go to school. Second is ...

Re: If ACC doesn't happen then
Playing 8 conference games those two east coast Academies would only have to travel to the west coast two times in a season. Navy would get to play in San Diego frequently and that should be appealing to them. In addition in the years that either of them played CSU on the road that is no different ...

Re: Sources: Cal, Stanford to ACC hits 'significant roadbloc
Offering to play for free is weird and desperate.
UH would have done the same if they could have afforded it. If the Big 12 had decent leadership Houston would still be in the AAC and even half decent leadership they would have made Houston pay $24 million or so out of pocket just to join at a ...

Re: Sources: Cal, Stanford to ACC hits 'significant roadbloc
The ACC media deal is paying about $25 million per member right now and that goes up about $1 million per year. When people talk about a "pro rata" they very often want to talk about a full conference distribution, but that is not what the pro rata covers. The pro rata covers the media money not a ...

Re: ACC considering SMU
I have no clue if the ACC contract had mandates for ESPN to pay a full share of media money for any added member, but I question if that is reality. In addition the one "news report" I saw that stated that talked about the ACC paying out $39 million per team recently. The ACC did pay out $39 million ...
