NIce. Avoided the obligatory mention of the DP.

"I’m not sure what else SMU can do.
The Mustangs returns home for the first time since knocking off Power 5 rival TCU, swatting USF, and earning a top 25 ranking. We’ll see if the fanbase and community respond on Saturday by arriving at Ford Stadium."
I cringed

Luckily, Dykes and the staff get that rebuilding a fanbase takes some time.

Yeah, but I can deal with honest criticism, and that's honest, accurate criticism.

Morris was nuts to think fans would show up during his time. Thanks to JJ (horse beaten to death), fan support was absolutely crushed. Morris left and we all went to that well attended Frisco bowl game and we were humiliated (not SDs fault). Last year, we didnt take care of business so our fans have been constantly disappointed some longer than most. It should come to no surprise if our attendance tomorrow is still somewhat poor. I hope coaches, players and analysts understand that it takes years of success to generate bandwagon fans. We also cant go to the student body to do enough because even at 100%, you are talking about 5k. That's not going to move the needle enough.

I have to kind of disagree a little bit about years for fandom- look what happened when the basketball team started winning everybody was showing up including my friend saying I had better seats than George Bush and mark Cuban - I mean the Bush seats shared with the millers were center court. Lol go Mustangs

Ha! My disagreeing to your disagree for disagreeing is that the Basketball influx was much easier to achieve when capacity is like what 7/8k vs 33k. The student body alone could almost fill Moody but barely a dent in Ford.

It's too soon to expect a noticeable change in the atmosphere at the stadium this year. In a normal year we would be expecting fewer than 20k butts in seats this week. We'll prob get an extra 1-2k with the recent buzz. If we manage to stay ranked all year, then next year will be better by 3-4k. String together 2-3 high-profile seasons and that's when you'll start to see a big uptick in season ticket holders and perhaps more full stadium games per year.

"And now, here we are. An exciting, complete team playing exciting football. A program making every effort to reach out to the Dallas community, whether through reading at elementary schools, billboards, or specialty uniforms. A team that should challenge for a conference title, and if form holds, who knows, a New Year’s Six Bowl. And if form holds, they’ll do it in front of a third filled stadium."
