This might be the most insightful post as to the problems with SMU football. There is not a commitment to winning...there is a commitment to having a football program. The only reason there is a football program now is because the Alumni demanded it post DP. If it were up to Pye, he would have dropped the program. But he could not because the alumni at that time were from Texas and were used to having a team that could every 5 years compete for a cotton bowl against Texas. Now those alums are in their 60s and 70s. The alumni in their 40s and 30s are the "lost generation," who is going to be the Carl Sewell, Paul Lloyd, and Gerald Ford in the next 20 years? Who is going to say, yeah, I will drop 5 million on SMU football...somebody who graduated post 1990?
