Plus the fact that regardless of their talent level (I liked those guys a little more than you do, apparently), the players Coach Jones inherited were not recruited with the idea that they would play in the Run-and-Shoot.
It would be like recruiting a bunch of English majors and sticking them all in physics classes. Yes, they're smart students but their background and talents fit another system. It's no wonder that first year had a disappointing record.
The fact that he has a winning record (18-14) since then, as he has recruited players for his and Coach Mason's systems, also is no surprise.
