First SMU Game You Attended?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower First game I remember was 76? against Houston in the Cotton Bowl during the State Fair. We lost, but all of my Dad's UT indoctrination quickly evaporated on my seeing the Ponies play and the campus - oldest sister had just started on the Hilltop. It was a UMYF trip from East Texas and it made a lifelong impact on me even in a losing effort.
BTW - That may have been our first game against Houston as a new member of the SWC. Sadly for Dad, all three kids went to Mom's school (SMU). "Once the number 3, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
New post SMU lands In The College Football Playoff Facing Penn State.
My first SMU game was in the Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M. I want to say it was 94 or 93 (I was only 10 or 11 at the time). I want to say the Aggies were ranked 5th in the nation at the time. SMU took the ball right down the field and scored on their opening position to go up 7-0. Things didn't go so well after that. I want to say the final score was 38-10 A&M.
Reply: I think you mean 92. I was there too. Pretty cool that was your first game. We tied the game at 7 when some nobody, my oldest brother, scored his only collegiate touchdown (he was a possession receiver in Rossley's Run n shoot if such thing exists). I was sitting with my dad, who was brought to tears by the play. Great job hanging in there as Pony fan though this rought stretch. Better things to come.
i went to a game when i was 5 with my grandpa a former graduate of smu and my dad. i think we were playing rice i know we one we were sitting in the nose bleeds of ownby the coolest thing ever and one of my fondest memories was petting peruna ill never forget thatt gam i have a little peruna my dad bought me.
The '66 game in Austin was mid-season, not a Championship game. SMU still had to win out, as it was we lost to Ark. who then had a second loss to TTU, putting us in the Cotton Bowl. I thought it was Partee, but ...40 years ago was a long time ago.

So your brother is #87 John DeVoss?
First SMU GameI don't like to disclose my ties to that dirtbag publicly, but yes.
I don't remember much about my first game other than Hixson & Levias were playing & red helmets.
I remember going to Moody & watching Gene Phillips & later Ira Terrell more that I do the FB games for some reason. Alot of great memories going to both FB & BB games with family.
I don't think this one has been mentioned, yet. My first SMU game was in 1961 in Fort Worth. SMU jumped out to a 20-7 advantage against TCU. The Frogs got hot and took a 28-20 lead. A late touchdown and a two-point conversion by SMU salvaged a 28-28 tie.
Cotton Bowl versus Texas. It was 1973 and I was ten. It was my first college game. My dad took me. Since he was a UT guy, I rooted for SMU. It was raining and Roosevelt Leaks ran all over SMU. I think he set a single game rushing record that day. SMU lost. Still had a great time.
Place was so bad this 18 year old was too scared to look at the hags
Ralphie...where was I???? That was my favorite game...and my freshman year.....oh and the Fare was so much fun....and did you realy have to Sneak into that S-hole?
