Devon MorelandRanked number 223 on the Scout.com 300 which is the top 300 high school players in the nation. Huge. By far the highest ranked recruit to commit to SMU in the last 8 years.
Re: Devon MorelandHe is going to be an absolute beast.

Re: Devon MorelandIt's really exciting to see the incredible talent that June and his team are brining in... I can't wait to see what Devon and his class will do in the next couple of years. SMU is going to be a truly exciting team to watch as we begin to work these young men into our rotation!
Re: Devon Morelandthink he will be a Jerry Hughes-type defender, hybrid LB and DE??
Re: Devon Morelandpied piper defensive recruit?
Re: Devon Moreland
He could be like a Harvey Armstrong type recruit...when Harvey signed with SMU out of Houston Kashmere in the late 70's it was the catalyst for huge recruiting inroads around the country. Devon Moreland makes the SMU program relevant around the country for any recruit.
Re: Devon Morelandactually Harvey Armstrong was a very good recruit but it was his teamate Eric Ferguson in that same class that was thought to be the National Gold Chip stud recruit. Ferguson was one of the Top players on the the gold standard of the day-the Dallas Morning News Blue Chip List and Dave Campbell's Blue Chip List. He was a National Top 100. But I agree Armstrong is one of the better players in SMU history that doesn't get a lot of recognition these days. All-American(and better at SMU than Michael Carter).

Re: Devon Moreland
Yeah, but a hell of a lot better, because he chose SMU. "It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."
... "Hit it."
Re: Devon Moreland
Didn't remember Ferguson........was he also from Kashmere?
Re: Devon MorelandYep-he was the starting DE opposite Byron Hunt. I bet you remember this play he made that set up our first Conference Championship in 15 years. Went nuts when he made this interception.

Re: Devon Morelandcould have used him last night to help put some pressure on UTEP's QB
Re: Devon MorelandHe will see a lot of early playing time even with Thomas and Hunt returning.

Re: Devon Moreland
Cool thanks....remember Byron 'Tweedy' Hunt well but not Eric...
Re: Devon MorelandTweedie Hunt was a 5-11 NG. He graduated before the championship year. Byron Hunt was his 6-5 cousin who ended up playing for the New York Giants. Eric Ferguson did make All-SWC in 1981.

Re: Devon Moreland
Damn...30 years of memories just melded two players...for some reason I always though of him as a tweedy. ..oh well. Sam Hunt, Byrons older brother, played in the NFL for the New England Patriots.
