Ranked number 223 on the Scout.com 300 which is the top 300 high school players in the nation. Huge. By far the highest ranked recruit to commit to SMU in the last 8 years.

It's really exciting to see the incredible talent that June and his team are brining in... I can't wait to see what Devon and his class will do in the next couple of years. SMU is going to be a truly exciting team to watch as we begin to work these young men into our rotation!

He could be like a Harvey Armstrong type recruit...when Harvey signed with SMU out of Houston Kashmere in the late 70's it was the catalyst for huge recruiting inroads around the country. Devon Moreland makes the SMU program relevant around the country for any recruit.

actually Harvey Armstrong was a very good recruit but it was his teamate Eric Ferguson in that same class that was thought to be the National Gold Chip stud recruit. Ferguson was one of the Top players on the the gold standard of the day-the Dallas Morning News Blue Chip List and Dave Campbell's Blue Chip List. He was a National Top 100. But I agree Armstrong is one of the better players in SMU history that doesn't get a lot of recognition these days. All-American(and better at SMU than Michael Carter).

Yeah, but a hell of a lot better, because he chose SMU.

Yep-he was the starting DE opposite Byron Hunt. I bet you remember this play he made that set up our first Conference Championship in 15 years. Went nuts when he made this interception.

He will see a lot of early playing time even with Thomas and Hunt returning.

Tweedie Hunt was a 5-11 NG. He graduated before the championship year. Byron Hunt was his 6-5 cousin who ended up playing for the New York Giants. Eric Ferguson did make All-SWC in 1981.

Damn...30 years of memories just melded two players...for some reason I always though of him as a tweedy. ..oh well.
Sam Hunt, Byrons older brother, played in the NFL for the New England Patriots.
