Rockwall quarterback Braden Smith put his 4.7-second 40-yard dash speed to good use last season, running for 10 touchdowns. That's not the only time Smith has been on the move.
"I've moved eight times," the 6-1, 190-pound senior said.
That's what happens when your father is a football coach.
Scott Smith is entering his third season as the head coach at Rockwall. He has also been a head coach at Garland, Duncanville, Highland Park and Odessa Permian and an assistant at Howard Payne, North Texas, Highland Park, SMU, Baylor and Arkansas.

Coach Scott Smith (left) and quarterback Braden helped lead Rockwall to a district title last season. Braden also plays basketball, he has competed in powerlifting, and he and a friend have their own lawn mowing company. But football is a popular subject for Braden and his father.
"We sit at the dinner table and start talking about different plays and things like that," Braden said. "Every Saturday night, we'll be at home watching whatever game is on."
Coaching a son isn't a new experience for Scott. At Permian, he coached his son Shea, who is now a quarterback at Air Force.
"It's a very special time," Scott said. "I think you never stop learning, realizing that all kids are different. It's not always them that needs to adjust. I need to adjust to them and let their strengths emerge."
Braden, a right-hander, broke his left wrist in Rockwall's 2006 opener and wore a cast in games the rest of the season. He still completed 67.3 percent of his passes and threw for 1,827 yards and 18 touchdowns with only four interceptions.
Rockwall went 8-3 and won the District 10-5A title, making the playoffs for the first time since 1994. Braden was named 10-5A's offensive player of the year, and his father was named the district's coach of the year.
Braden will be on the move again next year, but he won't have to go far. He has orally committed to SMU.
