Care to elaborate upon that?
No.

Well do you have some basis for saying this, just a feeling or what?

He is looking to try and match Stallion for the most posts on this board. Otherwise, its obvious he has no basis for his statement.

The number of posts on pf.com is of no consequence to me. I merely made a prediction, as many other posters on pf.com have done in the past about numerous topics, based on a gut feeling. If I'm wrong, I will be pleasantly surprised.

Rockwall QB, father enjoy success after their latest move

05:54 PM CDT on Wednesday, August 22, 2007
Stories by GREG RIDDLE// The Dallas Morning News

Rockwall quarterback Braden Smith put his 4.7-second 40-yard dash speed to good use last season, running for 10 touchdowns. That's not the only time Smith has been on the move.

"I've moved eight times," the 6-1, 190-pound senior said.

That's what happens when your father is a football coach.

Scott Smith is entering his third season as the head coach at Rockwall. He has also been a head coach at Garland, Duncanville, Highland Park and Odessa Permian and an assistant at Howard Payne, North Texas, Highland Park, SMU, Baylor and Arkansas.

Coach Scott Smith (left) and quarterback Braden helped lead Rockwall to a district title last season. Braden also plays basketball, he has competed in powerlifting, and he and a friend have their own lawn mowing company. But football is a popular subject for Braden and his father.

"We sit at the dinner table and start talking about different plays and things like that," Braden said. "Every Saturday night, we'll be at home watching whatever game is on."

Coaching a son isn't a new experience for Scott. At Permian, he coached his son Shea, who is now a quarterback at Air Force.

"It's a very special time," Scott said. "I think you never stop learning, realizing that all kids are different. It's not always them that needs to adjust. I need to adjust to them and let their strengths emerge."

Braden, a right-hander, broke his left wrist in Rockwall's 2006 opener and wore a cast in games the rest of the season. He still completed 67.3 percent of his passes and threw for 1,827 yards and 18 touchdowns with only four interceptions.

Rockwall went 8-3 and won the District 10-5A title, making the playoffs for the first time since 1994. Braden was named 10-5A's offensive player of the year, and his father was named the district's coach of the year.

Braden will be on the move again next year, but he won't have to go far. He has orally committed to SMU.

Wouldn't it be interesting if S.M.U. pulled a Todd Dodge-like deal and got Scott Smith and his son in one package? That is...if Braden keeps to his 'oral commitment'. And PB leaves.

That would be neat. Other than the facts that Riley is a very highly recruited player lowering himself to go to UNT (unlike Braden), that Scott is a lesser desired head coach in the college ranks than Todd, and that the father would be following his son as opposed to the son following father with the Dodge's.

I don't think Texas was exactly heartbroken when he switched to UNT. There's a reason that happened. Do your own thinking on that one.

That is irrelevant really. UT and SMU are on different playing fields. Anyone that UT would even strongly consider offering instantly becomes one of our best recruits of the year. In fact, I think Riley might be rated higher than any recruit Bennett has ever had in his tenure. So don't try to devalue his signing with UNT by saying UT wasn't crushed to lose him.

I couldn't disagree with you more about that. First of all, he didn't sign with UNT. He committed. Second, it is more logical for players like Emmanuel Moody to switch from a BCS team to another BCS team. He switched from Texas to USC. Rarely, do you go from BCS to non-BCS unless something odd occurs. In this case, Riley wants to play for his father -- and good for him. And he switched because he was going to have a chance to play QB at a non-BCS school. IMO, there was no way he was going to step on the field in Austin and go under center.

And you can take Riley. I'll take De'Von Bailey -- the 6th rated player in the state of Oklahoma. Riley is in the second 50 in this state. He is a Division I talent, no question. But his best opportunity to shine is with a non-BCS school. Nothing wrong with that.

The guy is a better rated prospect than just about anyone we have gotten in PB's tenure. Texas never intended to give Riley any shot at QB- he was recruited to play somewhere else. I can't split hairs and say whether he or Bailey is a better prospect but Riley is rated higher this year by rivals than Bailey was last year.

Dodge is a more coveted prospect than Braden Smith is (which is the comparison you originally posted about). Chase Daniel was a 6ft 3 star QB out of Southlake (just like Dodge) that has had a good degree of success at QB at a BCS school.

Dodge is a better prospect than Smith. He is better than most prospects we ever get. Whether he is good enough to play QB at Texas is unimportant as to his worth at a program like SMU or UNT.

My original post really had nothing to do with Braden Smith. It was more of an observation about Dodge.

Do you or I know if Riley Dodge is going to be a great DI QB? No

Do you or I know if Braden Smith is going to be a great DI QB? No

I guess we'll know in 5 years.
