What the average recruiting classes at Rice were like before they hired Graham and went to a bowl?

What the average recruiting classes at Tulsa were like before they hired Kragthorpe and went to a bowl?

What the average recruiting classes at UTEP were like before they hired Price and went to a bowl?

Were the UTEP, Rice and Tulsa recruiting vastly superior before they got better?

Is it reasonable to expect classes to just improve overnight before there is any sign of success?

Surely you are not suggesting SMU must learn to win with lesser recruits before it can expect to land better ones?
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
